European Bulk Services (EBS), a leading operator in the Port of Rotterdam, specializes in the storage and transshipment of dry bulk goods such as biomass, minerals, and coal. As one of the most prominent companies in the industry, EBS continuously seeks to enhance efficiency and safety across its operations.
A sliding roof, made to measure for storage tank
EBS contacted Blommaert with a request to develop a sliding system for an existing cover on one of their silos, EBS Silo 63, on the Botlek in Rotterdam. Repeatedly removing and replacing the cover over time was no longer compliant with current safety regulations. They therefore were looking into integrating a sliding roof. This means that the cover itself need not be moved, but still could be opened.
Due to our expertise, we quickly saw an opportunity to install a similar system to our qualitative sliding hatch cover or mobile roof system.
Collaboration between experts in metals
Working jointly with Ivens Group, a Belgian company and market leader in the construction of storage tanks for liquid bulk goods, Blommaert built a new aluminium cover into which a 9 x 9 metre sliding roof was incorporated. The roof consists of 4 aluminium sliding hatch covers that provide a 100% opening in the new cover. This provides optimal accessibility.
An aluminium sliding roof, opened and closed in less than one minute
The aluminium sliding roof is electrically powered and can be fully opened or closed in under one minute. This swift operation significantly reduces downtime, enabling more efficient loading and unloading of bulk materials.
