The Frisian-style hatch cover is a commonly used hatch cover for inland navigation vessels. It consists of separate aluminium hatch covers that are made to measure to match the hold width (from 4 to 12.5 metres).
These hatch covers usually consist of three sections: two sloping sections that rest on the coaming, with a horizontal walkway in between. The most common type is the one that does not require any bar holes (notches) to be made (for a smooth coaming).

Frisian-style hatch covers combined with a hydraulic hatch crane are ideal for precisely moving and optimally stacking the hatch covers without sacrificing headroom.
This type of Frisian-style hatch cover is extendible on the side where the hatch covers rest on the coaming. Their overhang is negligible and leaves sufficient space in the gangway as stipulated in the safety regulations.
An ingenious sliding system and conically shaped channels reduce the stacking height to a minimum of 8 cm. The combination of the ‘Derkiena’ hatch covers which slide in and out and the retractable hatch crane guarantees crew and visitor safety.
