The municipality of Woensdrecht’s new salt storage facility features solar panels integrated in a retractable roof that opens at the push of a button.

The new salt storage has a retractable roof that, unlike the old one, opens and closes mechanically. This is extremely useful for loading and unloading the salt. At first the storage facility doesn’t seem much different to any other storage facility, but it so happens to be the first comletely sustainable storage facility in the Netherlands.

A total of 24 solar panels have been installed on the retractable roof totalling to capacity of 8.64 kWp. This generates about 8,000 kWh of clean energy annually.
